For the unsuspecting tourist, navigating a foreign airport can sometimes be tricky. Most of us think this is exclusive to airports in so called “third world” countries, but some European airports have the language barrier problem too. Luckily, Vienna International airport has suffered a complete overhaul of their facilities and navigating around it is now quick and painless. With the high number of flights to Vienna coming in every day, it was an absolute necessity to make the airport as user-friendly as possible, for both German-speaking users and for users of all main EU languages. The airport management companies are known to be able to respond to sudden changes in a quick and intelligent manner, as was proven when they were able to quickly add a support terminal for Terminal 1 when the increase in low-cost flights was threatening to overwhelm the airport facilities.
Getting to the airport is also very easy if you use public transport. The S7 subway (called S-Bahn) line – the purple one – will take you straight to the airport with little fuss. If you’re looking for a faster, more comfortable – yet more expensive – ride you can always take the City Airport Train (CAT) that connects Vienna central (Mitte) station directly to the airport.
