Lanzarote in the Canary Islands is a hot favourite with tourists – especially from the UK. Thanks to a great year round climate, fantastic beaches and unique volcanic scenery that was forged by a series of enormous eruptions a couple of centuries ago.
Thankfully the volcanoes are all now dormant. But the Timanfaya Volcano Park which lies at the epicentre of these eruptions is the number one visitor attraction on the island. Welcoming close to 900,000 tourists last year alone.
Getting There
Lanzarote is located four hours flying time away from the UK – which is the island’s most important tourist market. And flights to Lanzarote are available from most major and regional airports. Thanks to the recent addition of new services from low cost companies such as Ryanair and easyJet.
Return prices start at around £150 and all flights touch down at the island’s sole international airport of Arrecife. Which is located around 3km away from the capital city of the same name.
Getting Around
Lanzarote is a very small island. Tourists can drive from one end to the other in an hour or so and car hire and petrol are both very reasonably priced. Making touring the island easy and affordable. There are also plenty of guided tours available for those who prefer not to get behind the wheel whilst on holiday.
Getting Accommodation
Tourists first started visiting Lanzarote in serious numbers some forty years ago. So there are plenty of good quality accommodation options available as a result.
There are over 250 hotels in Lanzarote for visitors to choose from. With the best selection available in the resort of Playa Blanca, located at this southern tip of the island. The growth of the internet has also resulted in many holidaymakers booking their own Lanzarote villas and flights online – with standard two bedroom properties with a private pool starting from around £450 per week depending on location and time of year.
