If you were to look at the calendar for all the Greek festivals and holidays, you would find that list to be very long. There are many Satin’s day throughout the year and each one has its own celebration. If you have the same name as the saint for that day, then you celebrate just as we celebrate out birthdays.
For instance, on of the many holidays in Greece is Clean Monday. It is also known as Katheri Deftera day and it takes place forty days before Easter. On this day is it customary to take a trip out to the country and to fly paper kites and is also the first day of lent. In July, on the island of Crete is a village called Rethymnon and they have a wine festival and then in mid July, there is another wine festival held in Heraklion.
In the first week of August there is a Sardine festival in Kaloni. Here you can find not only fish but live music, ouzo, dancing and other events that you can take part in. This is just a few of the long list of festivals. You can go online and read the many that take place in Greece.
